Original Hard Wood Frames
|
| |
Early in my painting career I decided that along with the oil painting and canvas stretching I wanted to also build my own frames. All of the frames that I make are solid hardwoods and range in size from 11x14 to 48x60. The woods I like best include: cherry, wawabima, aniegre, purpleheart, padauk, maple, lyptus, and lacewood. A wood hobbiest put a list together of hardwoods with pictures.
Construction is usually simple, but I am very particular on finish and quality. Finishes I usually like included some type of rubbed in stain and 3-8 coats of thin oil based urethane. Hardcore wood workers like to leave the wood in natural finish, but since I'm not a hardcore woodworker I try to go a step further depending on the painting and really get creative with finish and staining techniques. Inquire about framing needs if you are purchasing a painting.
Some paintings I sell have the original frame included with the painting. Look for this in the painting description. Frames are signed and recorded with the painting purchased and indicated on your certificate of authenticity. I joke with my friends that the lady at the Antique Road Show will really be happy you still have the original frame after I've gone to paint rainbows.
