Up for Auction Now

April 17, 2008Paintings below are done and may go up on ebay soon. I'm going to schedule them to end once I'm back from Krakow on or after Tuesday the 29th. Edit: I updated the digital of Lupines and Cat. The digital is a little dark, but colors are fairly close. This is a 14 x 11 inch painting and won't go up on ebay for now, but can be found in the available gallery.

April 15, 2008Two paintings below are done. first one of Alex is a gift for Matania and the second is the red house on Monhegan that recently changed hands. The 3rd picture is a sneak peek of a work in progress that should be done this week.

April 13, 2008I'm still touching up the still life below and decided to keep a small number of paintings off ebay and make them only available here at great prices. You can see them in the available gallery to the left.
I'm going to be in Piotrkow next weekend (April 19 - 21) and then Krakow the following weekend/week (April 26 - 29) to do some work. This coming week I'll have a number of paintings finished including a large Maine scene and another featuring the Cloth Hall in a very attractive dry brush style.
April 7, 2008These two will show up on ebay soon and I'll get some better digitals of them as well. I might actually do a couple touch ups on the still life.

March 28, 2008Two for ebay that started last night; both are solid paintings. Click on images below to be taken to the auctions which will end on Sunday, April 6 in the evening.

March 27, 2008Dublin went great. I got to go to the museum and several other great places. I regret that I didn't have a companion to pub hop with me, but next time perhaps. Here are some pictures from Dublin that are rather unimpressive.

I added some sold paintings to their correct galleries to the left. There is also a really good painting from Ohio I added to the available gallery pictured below.
March 9, 2008I'm going to be in Dublin, Ireland for a couple days to do some research and hopefully get some painting done and will be away from email and such. If you have an art emergency please leave a message and I'll get back to you asap.
Have fun, Bryan

March 5, 2008ateSome of the dates below have been wrong, but I corrected the ones to January; the year incorrectly said 2007. I've gone back to a standard canvas size now and will be having quite a few 14x11 paintings again. If you have one or more of my paintings the chances are they are 14x11. Its been nice going back to the size I got so used to. Here are two that I finished over the weekend and first part of the week. One is from Poland and the other Winton Woods in Cincinnati.

Feb. 27, 2008The painting below will be in the available gallery once its dry. Its from the Unknown Soldier Memorial in Warsaw which is where the Saxon Palace used to be before it was blown up by Germans in World War 2.

The painting below is in the available gallery. Its the first Poland painting, painted in Poland, thats for sale from this site. There is a painting ending tonight on ebay so don't miss that and there are two more ending on Sunday evening. Another painting will go up this Thursday, but I'm not sure which one yet.
Feb. 24, 2008In haste I made some spelling errors below and they are corrected now. I was in Piotrkow this weekend and didn't get any large amount of work done, but I might be able to sneak out a small train station painting this coming week from there. Here is a small painting I did that is similar to a larger one below, but completely different weather effects. It will most likely end up on ebay once I get some better digitals of it.
Feb. 22, 2008I made a small website update to add user action to the tables. Its quite simple; you can see it when you move your mouse over each journal update section - the cell will highlight. I know what you are thinking... I should be painting rather than goofing around with the bells and whistles of the website and you are right, but today I'm busy making pierogo and possibly cookies for Justyna's parents.
Here is the code for you HTML buffs: 1) Add contents of item 1 below into your stylesheet; you can adjust the hex color numbers as needed, but remember this doesn't change font colors. 2) Next change your table's TD like the one below - only that cell will change colors.
1)
<style>
<!--
TD.off {BACKGROUND: #dddddb}
TD.on {BACKGROUND: #ededec}
-->
</style>
2)
<TD class="off" onmouseover="this.className='on'"
onmouseout="this.className='off'">

Feb. 21, 2008I feel like I am in full artist mode. Lots of great paintings are coming up. Here are two for ebay starting tonight.
Feb. 17, 2008Another Stonington Painting is up on ebay starting Sunday night. The link will work once the auction starts.
Feb. 13, 2008I've been busy painting and have a couple great works ready. One is starting on ebay tonight and the other will start soon. Here are pictures of them; I'll change the pictures to links to the ebay auctions later once they start. If you must have one of them before they start on ebay send me an email asap. Have fun :)
Feb. 7, 2008I've been doing some online promotion of my art and now have an account on artwanted.com. I also will be participating with deviant art again; I have yet to update my portfolio there, but there is some work there thats not here. On top of those I also participate with wetcanvas which is an artist forum.
There are more auctions coming up so please stop back and don't be afraid of emailing me anything at all. I also finished these small paintings this week. Please inquire if one interests you; all are in the 14x11 size range, but they vary.

Feb. 5, 2008The painting below will start on ebay Tuesday night at 11:15 Eastern. Its 12x9 and the auction will end on a Friday so get those bids in early as bidding is usually slow on Fridays :)
Click image to be taken to the auction.
Feb. 3, 2008Superbowl! Not in Europe though :( We got to watch assorted snow based single person sports this afternoon. Not the super-commercialized over powerhoused sports carnival-o-rama double super one.
On a more serious note I've started some auctions on ebay. Click image below for the link to the first one. I'll make more webpage entries for the other auctions.
Feb. 1, 2007I took a break from smaller paintings and did these two these past couple weeks. One is a larger version of a smaller painting below and both are 27x20 inches. Look for some small ones up on ebay soon; I'll link them from here. Click images below for larger version. Both of these below are sold.

January 16, 2007Here are a couple new paintings to share; some are intended for ebay starting in February, but please let me know if one of them interests you. Digitals have bad blue saturation and slightly blurry/noisy. First one is from Mt. Adams in Cincinnati. The next two are from Monhegan featuring lobster cove rocks and the school house and the last one is Stonington Maine.

January 11, 2007Here are a couple new paintings to share. The first one is from my day trip to Berlin and features the train station there in the early evening. The second painting is the wreck of the Sheridan on Monhegan and the third is the house near lobster cove also on Monhegan.

January 6, 2007The available gallery got a number of additions today. The images below were moved over there and I added some brand new ones from Maine. I've been doing some great paintings lately and I look forward to getting back on ebay with some more small paintings again soon. Here are the two newest paintings:
December 29, 2007It was finally sunny today. Really the first all sunny day since I've been here or about 3 months. First priority was getting digitals which can be seen in the available gallery. Some of these will go to ebay soon - most likely mid to late January. Sizes are between 8x10 inches and 16x12 inches, but some are in cm. I have larger digitals of all of these; let me know if one interests you and I can send it out. Digitals are fairly close, but the blue saturation is a little short.
December 12, 2007I've finished a bunch of paintings, but its been cloudy so no digitals yet. I tried getting some inside pictures, but glare and lighting was too bad for anything good as seen below. This is a painting of a statue sculpted by Boleslaw Syrewicz of Ludwik Kronenberg in the museum in Warsaw. - Image moved to Dec. 29 update.
December 9, 2007It appears that the whiteheadgallery is not being used by someone in China as a "sender" for spam anymore. I haven't gotten returns for a couple days. At the worst it was about 100 returns a day which isn't too bad and no one has complained which is best.
I added some more images to the free stuff link to the left. There are 4 total from Isle Au Haut and they'll make great desktops. I'll add some more from Warsaw soon.
November 30, 2007I've had some problems getting digitals here, but I'm doing well painting - especially with the big window in my painting room - although it gets dark at 3:30 here. Several paintings are not ready to post yet because of the poor digital quality. Below are some that came out okay after some adjustments; let me know if you'd like to buy one. - images moved to Dec. 29 update.
November 24, 2007Stuff is finally here. It was delivered Thanksgiving night at 9:45pm. I seem to have left a couple things behind I didn't intend to, but everything arrived safely and without getting damaged. Justyna and I have arranged our apartment already and everything is in place and I'll begin painting first thing Monday as a professional painter again. Before I was limited in supplies and only had the basics which kept my workspace to the kitchen table. Several items arrived from my mom as well which will help fill food related holes. I'll have some nice ebay paintings coming up this week and will post them when done. The paintings below are also for sale now.
November 7, 2007These two paintings are done. Despite being in Poland I finished a painting that was on my mind since the last time I drove to the Cincinnati Art Club meeting. This is Mitchell Avenue facing West in the heart of Avondale. When the sun sets it always creates an interesting color on the distant hillside. See the painting below for results. The second painting is from Poland on a very sunny mid morning. The scene is the North East side of the old town with the Wisla in the background. The first one will probably go to Miller Gallery and the Poland painting is for sale with an asking price of $200 (includes shipping); both are 13"x10.5" and digitals are a bit blurred.

I'm still waiting on my stuff. Its in customs now waiting to be inventoried and paid for which I'll do Wednesday. On top of sales tax I paid initially for the stuff I now get to pay VAT tax (22%) on its value.
October 29, 2007My supplies should be getting here this week, but on Saturday the 3rd. I think I can go about 1 more week of non-serious painting before I start going cooky. I've been doing preliminary work in assorted locations around Warsaw. Places I've started with are the old town and Łazienki Park (Wazienki). I made a friend at the park. Here the squirrel below wanted everything to do with me. He climbed my leg twice and really wanted me to produce some type of treat, but unfortunately I had none, but I'll be ready next time.
As paintings are finished I'll post them here and then move them to the available gallery (which is empty at the moment). Small paintings will also go on ebay if they go unsold to my previous customers after a couple days. Be sure to check back often and I'll try to have something posted near daily to keep your interest. This week I'm going to move some digitals around on the site.
October 14, 2007I've secured some art supply stores. There is one that has a tremendous amount of stretched canvas and several of the makes are on par with my standards which will allow for more painting and less stretching. The sizes are nearly 90% metric and I want to continue painting in the 14x11 inch and 16x20 inch sizes so I've got more searching to do. I've also got all translations needed for some of the other supplies. I'm still looking for a thin plywood with glued canvas plein air type board to paint on. I'll probably have some works done by this weekend, but I still don't have my normal working supplies so what I get done will be small.
October 5, 2007Still no painting going on yet and with a wedding to go to this weekend its looking like it'll be next week before I get started. I have a limited amount of supplies now, but there are art stores near that have great artist stuff.
It seems that coke here in Europe has about half the calories of coke in the states. It tastes quite different and I'm sure its another reason why the folks here are thinner than in the states. I checked the calories on pepsi and other drinks and they're all about the same. They also don't use corn syrup.
Microsoft surface is being introduced in Europe sometime soon too. Perhaps we'll see blue screen tables in our restaurants and bars.

September 30, 2007I'm in Poland now. Delta flight was late and I missed the first trip to Warsaw so I had to wait a day. In general many of the flights were late. Its actually somewhat comical considering planned delays, mechanical delays, and then taxi delays.
Poland is nice though and Justyna and I are together again. I'll start working on some paintings very soon, yet I won't have a good work area until my stuff arrives in another couple weeks and I also don't have my email set up completely.
John Henry is at the Miller Gallery if you'd like to see it. I'm not certain on pricing, but I believe we tried to get it under 12.
September 24, 2007John Henry = DoneMy experience in the states is complete. Here is the result.
I have not updated the process write up yet, but I'll do that next week once I get to Poland. To be honest I've worked on it so hard and long I can't decide how well it turned out yet. It doesn't have a varnish on it and the paint is a bit chalky in the dark areas. I'll get some good digitals of it as soon as possible, but here is what I got tonight. The painting is 4 x 6 feet; and will require a large wall and multiple overhead lighting.

Many thanks to my friend Rodrick. He did the modeling and critiqueing. He is an up and coming actor, model, and creative guru. Email him at the above link for work inquiries.

September 5, 2007I'm going to paint a couple more paintings and start boxing up all of my stuff. I have a few smaller paintings that will go up on ebay next week. Once I get my supplies in Poland I'll be painting 100% of the time compared to maybe 60% of it now. I'm looking forward to that and progressing my skills. The journal page is getting regular updates now as I've moved to a more robust "journal" system; its more of a blog now. I promise that reading it will not make you more stupid.
I had an HTML bug that was causing some format errors on this page of the site; the tables can get nested pretty deep and be problematic to troubleshoot with my text editor. I've also changed old updates to other pages rather than commenting them out. On the bottom of the page is a link to the next and older page. I don't expect people to be interested in old news, but its there if needed.
September 5, 2007I'm going to allow the sale paintings to fall down into the news page.
Over the past couple weeks I've completed quite a few paintings. I think 7 total. Here are three of them. The first one is a research based interpretation of a rock formation on Monhegan and a Hopper painting. The second and third are the union terminal building in Cincinnati. The third one was done with a new process for me. Basically I used a 6B pencil to define all the forms on canvas prior to painting and then thinly applied paint over it. This yielded an interesting result and I'll work on this process further to be able to put in my bag of tricks. Enough blabbering; enjoy the paintings and feel free to make an offer if you like one (edit: both union terminal railroad paintings sold). Sizes are 14x12, 20x16, and 22x18. Digitals are not great, but I'll update them as soon as I get some good light.

September 3, 2007This week I'll be in Cincinnati and painting non-stop. There are a number of small paintings that are done that'll be up on ebay soon. I've not decided, but I might offer them to my previous customers here first at very fair prices. A couple of them are very good.
I'm going to be doing quite a few more journal entries; many will be totally useless, but I want to make sure there is new content on this site near daily.
August 28, 2007The other day I wanted to sum up my my journey from the States to Poland in a painting. This is what I came up with and I'll comment on it and give an artist interpretation of it soon.

Previous update: Thanks to Rodrick I am working again on John Henry and I've been busy with it all of the day so far. I still have yet to put paint down, but I'll get some updates on it over the weekend. I'm getting excited as it gets close to done.I basically re-started the shirt and got the first layer of paint down on the John Henry Painting. Its a slightly different process when painting over old paint and I'll go over it soon (no updates today).
This is a super quick painting done over an old painting that had crazy thick stroke work in a horizontal pattern. I was mostly experimenting with that with a quick style. Despite its lack of subject its actually looking interesting because of the understroke. I'll put this painting up on ebay soon. Its titled Rodrick's View
August 22, 2007This painting of the view from Janowiec in the Lublin region of Poland (Kazimierz Dolny) is just about done. The final layer will be the texture and character layer. Basically the items with edges will get defined a bit more and forms will develop. I've also boogered (artistically messed up) the blue balance in the tree forms as they go into the distance and it'll get mathematically fixed. I've commented in my journal about Kazimierz so I will refrain from redundancy. I'll breifly offer this painting on the website and then it will go to the gallery so please be quick. Its priced extremely well at $900 framed (not made yet)

I'm continuing the sale of art below. I'll keep it one update down in the list. I've not had many offers on paintings. Please don't be shy; I'm aware that these paintings are not the best, but I would like them to sell :)
August 13, 2007Couple more small works done for ebay.

Currently I'm working on putting together a list of paintings that need homes. I'm going to accept any offers on them very soon. Many of these paintings are quite good and most are early works. While they are technically solid they may not have aesthetic quality. Mike at the art club said to me once that all paintings will sell... which I took as meaning they could be sold as colorful kindling up to rare representations of an artist's early work once I'm over the rainbow. Either way I'd rather find homes for them prior to moving to Europe.
August 13, 2007This is done. I started this a month ago or so and I wasn't quite happy with it. I reworked the color balances and adjusted everything and basically repainted it. Interestingly the underpainting is showing in areas and its looking very nice now. There is an attractive buildup of paint in detail areas. I want to sell it prior to going to Poland so... I'm going to under price it at $900 or $950 framed. Its 32x22 inches and I'll get better digitals Monday afternoon/eve.

I will have a number of paintings for sale soon at very fair discounts. Basically they're good paintings, but not my best and I would rather not move them to Poland. Look for those in the close future.
I updated the John Henry Painting a bit more. Its coming right along. I'm estimating only 40 hours left on it which will put me under 325 total.
August 9, 2007No John Henry updates today, but for folks outside of American culture or those who haven't felt the Legend please check these links for more info.
I'll add my own experiences later as the painting wraps up.
August 7, 2007Maine withdrawal hit hard last night so I started these two paintings and finished them both tonight. I've been working on a 2 layer process and blending technique that I hammered out with these two. Digital pictures won't be able to show the fine gradient in the sky; my high school art teacher would be proud :) Both will be up on ebay over the next couple days.

No new updates for John Henry tonight. I'm still mentally working on some ideas and fixes for some issues I'm having with it. Thanks for your emails of support / encouragement.
August 6, 2007I updated the John Henry painting a couple times more. see link below (july 31) for those progress pictures. Basically I'm done with the 2nd layer on everything and the forms/structures are done. The rest of the painting is down hill.
I haven't had any pictures to post lately so I went through my archive and found this little guy. Its one of my early paintings. This was right after I did an outdoor show and I brought home all the paintings that didn't sell... which was all but one :) I've gotten quite a bit better in the last 4 years though. Once I'm done with John Henry I'll post some more work.
July 31, 2007Be sure to check out the demo I'm working on for the John Henry Painting. No new updates tonight, but I did work on it some more and the sky and ground are essentially done. I won't get a chance to work on the shirt or face until Thursday or Friday as I'll need the entire day to move the paint. I'm really liking the first layer on the pants and probably won't work on those anymore. Due to demand I'll get a couple small Maine paintings done Tuesday and Wednesday and work on the monhegan one thats yet to be finished.
July 27, 2007Be sure to check out the demo I'm working on for the John Henry Painting which is currently being updated as the work progresses. Each night after working on it the page will get added to. The drawing took 20 hours to do, but I'm moving right along with the underpainting which will actually be the final layer in some spots.
July 25, 2007 John Henry painting is stretched and primed. It took all night to gesso it; I've never been too fond of painting on the gesso, but I enjoyed this large canvas. The gesso caused some warpage of the stretchers so I'll have to redo those thursday and then start the drawing. Hats off to Rodrick who is doing the modelling.
This painting, which I did in 2004 and kept in my collection because I was never quite happy with it, got some updates and its now done and quite strong. Its 24 x 30 and I'll get a better digital soon. Somehow whenever I update the website I never have good digitals. I finished up another painting for ebay too which is 16x20 and is good. I'll link that and post it here soon.
July 23, 2007Two newest paintngs; they're both 14x11 and will go to the gallery. The first one is showing pretty good, but the second one the digital is not so good.

I've started work on my American folk legend painting and will release details later once I start getting some paint down. I'll keep track of hours spent on it, but for now I'm predicting 325.
July 17, 2007I signed a gallery contract with Miller Gallery. They will be selling a selection of my best works including The Veil. For right now things won't change too much while I'm in the states, but they will be my main representation when I'm in Poland. This website will be updated as such over the next couple days, but I did most of the work already.
July 11, 2007 Masha painting is getting close to being wrapped up and will be available soon. Paintings like this require 6 months to dry before a layer of varnish can be applied. This is titled Masha's Leave. Despite my best attempts I'm still unable to get a digital of this I'm happy with, but I'll keep trying and update as necessary. The story about this work is told in the composition, setting, postures, and tones.
I've been juggling a couple things around on the site. If you are a frequent visitor you might notice some changes. The downside to writing html by hand is it takes a bit of time to do changes, but its most important that the load times are quick despite being image heavy. If you see spelling errors you can report them to me and I'll give you 5 artist points :) If english is your second language and you find spelling errors you get 15 artist points. Have fun!
July 10, 2007This painting is done. The heavy contrast composition has eluded my skills for some time; I've finally figured out some paint application techniques to deal with low sun situations like this. Its strong. Painted Alla Prima over 11 hours with pre toned canvas that was carefully under washed. Enough talk -> see picture below. Size is 22x18 inches. Edit: SOLD; thanks

July 8, 2007This painting is done. Well.. I'm saying done, but I'm sure after a couple days I'll change a couple things a bit as I see them. Right now I'm thinking about adding a couple little grass forms to help round out the composition a bit more. Its heavy on the right, but I wanted to get this scene truthfully and historically accurate. It'll be for sale as soon as I'm sure its done :).

June 18, 2007Just a reminder: check out the Maine Stock images if you are interested.
I've got a couple paintings done; the untitled snow scene is large and going to the gallery.

The Maine stock image department is now open. I compiled about 2400 pictures of assorted Maine stuff and have a DVD set for sale now. Artist's or other creative folks interested in the set of Maine Images can see the complete collection of thumbnails and some sample images from the link Buy -> Maine Images to the left. This is the same set of images I'll be working from when I am in Poland and not able to get to Maine.
Cost on the entire set on DVD is $90 with other pricing/format options.
Here is a small example of the collection followed by an Edward Hopper painting of the same subject.

June 17, 2007I'm back from the Vacation State. I've got a couple paintings going on that won't be ready for a bit and I'm busy getting back into the swing of things in Cincinnati. One project I'm working on is a DVD of stock images from my travels around Maine. The purpose of this is for artists to be able pull ideas from and will be for sale sometime very soon. I'm not exactly sure how I'm going to display the images on this website as examples or the price. I do know that it will be completely royalty free and intended for artists. Check back if interested.
Rodrick has agreed to do some work with me so I'll have my magnum opus (If I can declare this myself) of my American experience to start soon.
May 31, 2007I'm leaving for Maine today. I'll be back in about 2 weeks and will most likely have some paintings to share at that time. The goal of the trip is to visit family. Most likely I won't be updating the website during my trip, but I'll have some stories to share when I get back. Have fun.
May 14, 2007Two smaller paintings done. Many artists paint over old paintings; I'm no different. Both of these were actually painted over paintings done in 2004. Digitals are fairly correct, but the color blend is much more subtle in the sunset one.

May 8, 2007I'm soon to start my next large painting; the research is mostle done, but I'm waiting word from my model. Details coming soon, but its going to be my largest work yet (4ft x 6ft).
Here is a digital of the framed painting from below.
May 7, 2007I deleted the welcome page which was heavy on graphics and low on content. It was having adverse effects on search engine results so I made this page the homepage (index.html). I'll get something to look at for the top when time allows and old bookmarks will go to the old intro page or try the graphic intro page if you want.
After testing out the link I realized there is a broken one for the commission page. I'll put that near the top of my list of things to do. In the mean time if you want to commission a work just email me and we can talk specifics.
April 22, 2007I completed a couple small updates to the website in the galleries. I added a couple paintings to the available page and moved a couple around to the correct pages. Nothing super great.
For the past month I've been working on this and just tonight I wrapped it up and it is intended to be a donation. I'm not sure yet what charity I want to donate it to, but its most likely going to be the Javne Fund. I'll offer the painting to them directly and if refused it'll get auctioned off on ebay as such and profits sent to the fund. This is what I experienced at Birkenau concentration camp (the larger camp near Auschwitz). This painting is viewing the restored barracks in the distance from off to the side of one of the gas chambers. The painting is 5 or 6 layers of paint each carefully planned out with moderate impasto with some negative paint knife work.
April 22, 2007 - December 31, 2005All of these updates are archived. If you need to see them for any reason please let me know. They are in old formats.
